What is Pilates?
It is a series of exercises developed by Joseph Pilates to create a healthy body, mind and lifestyle. The focus is on the deep, core muscles of the body; the abdominal, lower back and buttocks (known as the “powerhouse”). Whether the goal is to improve overall body conditioning, tone muscles, trim inches, stretch tight muscles or decrease stress or fatigue, Pilates is a great choice.
What sets Mind Body apart from other physical therapy programs?
Unlike other physical therapy programs, your therapist will be working with you for your entire appointment. We schedule only one patient per hour per therapist, so you receive the full focus and attention of your therapist. Most other rehabilitation programs schedule multiple visits for each therapist and they move from room to room, so your rehabilitation program is compromised. Therapist at Mind Body will provide you with focused care and undivided attention for your entire appointment.
What is Pilates apparatus instruction?
Apparatus developed by Joseph Pilates are utilized during a 55 minute session to assist a participant to focus on strengthening and deepening the “powerhouse”. This session is by appointment only.
What type of clothes should I wear for the classes?
Your clothing should be comfortable. You should be able to move and stretch without the clothes binding.
What kind of physical therapy is provided?
We provide PT for most diagnoses – learn more on our Physical Therapy page.
Do I need a prescription from my doctor for physical therapy?
In Maryland a doctor’s prescription is not required for PT.
How will I know if you take my insurance?
All insurance policies are different. Our staff will gladly research your insurance benefits. Please give us a call.
Is Pilates exercise part of my Physical Therapy program?
At Mind Body we believe the Authentic Pilates exercise system is very effective for rehabilitation regardless of your age or physical ability. That is why we may use modified methods based on specific patient needs. The Pilates system is based on spinal stabilization, core strength, flexibility, endurance and coordination. The basics of Pilates will be modified to support your individual rehabilitation program, if appropriate. If Pilates is part of your treatment program, it’s billed to your insurance company. Individual Pilates lessons are NOT part of Physical Therapy and aren’t covered under insurance. Individual lessons must be scheduled and paid for independent of your Physical Therapy.
What are the hours of business?
Mind~Body is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00am to 7:00pm, Friday from 8:00am to 3:00pm and Saturday from 8:00am to 1:00pm.
My doctor said that I have patella-femoral syndrome. Is there anything that can be done?
There are many options for treatment of patellar-femoral syndrome. PT has been found to be very effective in the treatment of this problem.
I have a bad back and was shown some back exercises that a friend did when her back hurt, should I do them?
Not all exercises are appropriate for all back pain. It is best to have exercises prescribed for your specific back pain or diagnosis.
How do I know which Pilates class is best for me?
